This truly outstanding book, first published in Russian in the 70s and regarded there as a classic, contains everything you need to know about delivering checkmate. It contains a wealth of elegant and sophisticated chess tactics as well as systematic and effective instruction.
Each chapter covers a different piece or combination of pieces that is able to deliver checkmate, and provides illustrative templates for just about every mating formation. By working through the book, readers will develop their ability to recognise the potential for a checkmate, as well as the know-how to execute one.
Clearly written and beautifully organised, it will appeal to both club and tournament players.
A Russian chess classic, available in the English language for the first time.
Contains comprehensive coverage of the different combinations that can lead to checkmate, making it an invaluable resource for every chess player.
Introduction by former world champion Mikhail Tal, the greatest checkmate specialist of them all.

Title :
Tal's Winning Chess Combinations, 2nd edition
Comments :
This is an excellent book on learning tactics and combinations. When I first started reading it, I thought it had a familiar feel to it. I grabbed my copy of Tal's Winning Chess Combinations and compared the two books. It turns out that 1000 Checkmate Combinations is like a second edition to Tal's Winning Chess Combinations written back in 1979. This book has a few extra examples and several of the chapters were moved around. The intros to some of the chapters were also rewritten. Still, an excellent book that is much more affordable than buying a rare used copy of Tal's Winning Chess Combinations at $90+.
