Jeremy Silman, 443 pp. (Siles Press 1999)

The second edition of Silman's great book has been enlarged and improved. This is one of the best instructive books in print. It is strongly recommended to anyone above novice and below say 1800 and frankly even many experts (up to Elo 2199) would probably benefit from it. For teaching essentials of strategy planning calculation and mental attitude it is outstanding.

Comments : This book is exellent. It takes Euwe's concept in Master vs Amateur and takes it to a new level. The book is filled with games and posistions in which the author was playing against his students. During the game they were instructed to say what they were thinking. This showed how their minds worked during a game and what things they were or were not thinking about. This is an excellent way to improve yourself as a player. Its also easy to read and fun to go over.
