Must have |

This is one of the great books on combinations. In a previous incarnation about 20 years back it was organised by tactical theme (fork, pin, double attack, decoy, etc.); now it's organised by type of sacrifice (pawn, bishop, knight, rook, queen). In the index, though, one can find the positions classified by tactical theme. Anyone striving to improve his sacrificial and combinational prowess will want to work through chunks of this book. Highly recommended. |

All you need |

There are over 2700 combinations in this book, including a couple of hundred famous historical ones. You won''t need any other book of combinations. They are good, varied and challenging. Excellent, durable hardcover binding, opens flat. This is one of those books every chess player should have. |

If you're not good enough to calculate 15 to 40 moves in a position (with variations included) then, like me, you may find this book frustrating. |
