After I read this book it extremely helped me to understand the attacking method of Bobby Fischer, and, improved mine also. I recomend this book for beginners and masters alike, because we truly do become masters when we realize the fact we'll always be beginners. |

This was one of my first chess books in the late 1980's and it is still a good book for beginners today. It basically focuses solely on elements of checkmate, how to find it and how to stop it. The book is in a puzzle format and is quick and easy to go through. The essential checkmating patterns presented also help the beginner to develop a better familiarity with the pieces and tactics. |

This is the first book I have all beginning students buy. I am not a big Fischer fan (nor am I anti-Fischer!), but must concede that this book offers the best way to learn the basics of chess.
This book, unlike many others, seems to really whet the beginner's appetite for more, whereas some beginner's books are too complicated to start.
This book is not simple or complicated; it simply offers good beginning chess instruction in a very forthright manner! |
