Paladin Chess Set |

I agree that ChessCafe should get 5 stars for customer service. I had a missing rook that was replaced promptly. The quality of the set does remind me of the old Drueke sets, I have a 2.5 set from the 70s and can see the family resemblance. The finish of the plastic is a nice satin sheen, rather than the hard shininess often found these days. A happy addition to my modest collection. |

This one's a winner! It's a well-done interpretation of a classic design from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. The original sets are now collector items! Now we can again enjoy this wonderful design at an affordable price! This is a PLAYER'S set that I think most will enjoy. Give it a try! |

The set has a wonderful feel with the extra weight. The classic Staunton design looks great on a roll-up to a mid-range wooden board. With the triple weight of the pieces, protect the kings. I had to glue the cross back on one which I think broke in the very well-made bag. For the money, this is a classy set to own. |

Actually it's NINE stars! Four for the set and five for the USCF service. The first Paladin set I bought was obviously defective (missing a pawn and other stuff it's not necessary to get into). I shot off an angry email to the USCF store and they emailed me back within a couple of days to say they were sending out a replacement set, free of charge. It arrived this evening and I can tell why everyone is giving this set such favorable reviews. Being a collector (I have around 125 sets, ranging from very fine to cheap club sets), so it's a little difficult to give a $20 set five stars (four is appropriate), but it is not at all difficult to give the USCF/ChessCafe shop people five stars, so that's NINE stars in all! :) |

If you're old enough to remember the plastic Drueke tournament pieces that were so popular in the 70s, then I defy you to distinguish the style of these pieces from those in any material manner. Still as solid, practical, and delightful to play with now as they were then. Except now they're available in ivory for White, instead of only natural. Good move! |
