GM Ivan Ivanisevic was born in Belgrade in 1977. He attracted great attention from the chess world when he defeated Magnus Carlsen with the black pieces in the 2007 European Team Championship in Crete. Throughout his career he has won games against such notable players as Naiditsch, Smirin, Korchnoi, Beliavsky, Xie Jun... Among his greatest successes so far are tournament wins in Malakoff, Kavala, Interlaken, but also the Serbian championships of 2008, 2009 and 2011. Recent successes include third place in the "C" group of the 2011 Wijk aan Zee tournament and his qualification to the 2011 World Cup, thanks to his strong performance in the 2011 European Championship in Aix les Bains. His current rating is 2633. His career-high rating is 2664.
